WATCH: 7-Year-Old Shaun White Starts His Snowboarding Career at Sierra-at-Tahoe

Shaun White is an extreme sports icon. Holding the records for most Olympic and X-Games Gold Medals, he has claimed his place as one of the greatest snowboarders ever. His competitive career started on the slopes of one of Tahoe’s most popular ski resorts.

The above video shows The Flying Tomato as a 7-year-old competing in a competition at Sierra-at-Tahoe. At the young age, White came in 11th place overall in the competition. There weren’t many times throughout his life he would finish so low on the totem pole.

The video, produced by a local station in 1994, shows White snowboarding the Tahoe slopes and performing jumps off a crude halfpipe. A lot has changed in the world of snowboarding, but Shaun White still remains a force.
