Watch Hikers Complete the Grueling Trek to the Top of Lassen Peak in the Winter
The hike to the top of Lassen Peak is popular for outdoor adventurers in the summer months. The maintained trail is five miles roundtrip and can get the whole family to the top of Northern California’s most iconic volcanoes.
If you choose to do it in the winter, it’s a MUCH different experience.
With the park’s highway closed during the winter, the snowy hike to Lassen Peak begins at the Kohm Yah-Mah-Nee Visitors Center and goes for 6 miles just to get to the trailhead. From there, you’ll have the 2-mile climb to the top of the 10,457-foot peak. The trek can be up to 16-miles roundtrip.
Typically, this feat is accomplished in multiple days, with snow camping taking place around Lake Helen. Watch the above video to see what it’s like to make the trek.
