Whiskeytown Memorial Regatta Celebrates 60th Year on the Water

The Whiskeytown Sailing Club will host its 60th Annual Memorial Weekend Regatta on May 24–25 at Whiskeytown Lake, bringing together seasoned sailors and newcomers from across the West Coast.

The two-day regatta kicks off at 11 a.m. Saturday at Brandy Creek Marina, featuring over 40 sailboats navigating the scenic waters of Whiskeytown. Sailors from California, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington return annually for the festive and competitive tradition, some of whom represent third-generation racing families.

“There are many sailors and their families that have been coming to Whiskeytown Lake every year for many years,” said Commodore Michael Moore. “We also meet sailors new to racing each year.”

The weekend includes more than just racing. On Saturday evening, participants and guests can enjoy a catered Regatta Dinner (advance reservations required), with the event wrapping up Sunday following the final race and awards ceremony.

Founded shortly after President John F. Kennedy dedicated Whiskeytown Dam in 1963, the Whiskeytown Sailing Club has long served as a hub for Northern California’s sailing community. The club works closely with the Coast Guard Auxiliary, the National Park Service, and Whiskeytown Marinas to ensure safe and successful events.

Online registration is available via Regatta Network. For more information or to join the club, visit WhiskeytownSailing.org.
