Widespread Flooding Reported Across Redding as Heavy Rain Continues

Heavy rain is causing widespread flooding across parts of Redding, prompting officials to warn residents and motorists to avoid several impacted areas.
The Redding Police Department and Redding Fire Department confirmed multiple locations experiencing active flooding as conditions continue to change rapidly. Mary Lake Park has seen significant water rise, while roads in the Shasta View area have been closed after floodwaters entered the neighborhood. On Capricorn Street, water levels have reportedly risen above fire hydrants in some sections.
Flooding is also affecting parts of South Redding, where low-lying yards and backyards are taking on water. On Interstate 5, southbound lanes near the South Bonnyview area have reported flooding, creating hazardous driving conditions.
Authorities say they are receiving numerous calls from stranded motorists who attempted to drive through flooded roadways. Officials are strongly urging drivers to avoid flooded lanes, follow posted detours, and seek alternate routes when possible.
Even shallow water can stall vehicles, sweep them off the road, or put drivers and first responders at risk. Residents are encouraged to allow extra travel time, stay alert to changing conditions, and report hazardous situations when it is safe to do so.
Emergency crews continue to assess conditions throughout the city, and additional updates are expected as the storm system moves through the region. Public safety officials emphasize that avoiding flooded areas is the best way to stay safe during severe weather events like this.
