Yolo Explorer Train Debuts as Sacramento’s Scenic Countryside Escape

There’s a new way to see Northern California’s farmland, and it comes with a bit of history on steel rails.
The River Fox Train has reintroduced its rolling countryside experience under a new name, the Yolo Explorer, offering passengers a scenic journey through Yolo County.
The train winds past some of the region’s most iconic agricultural landscapes. Think seas of sunflowers, orchards heavy with walnuts, and golden waves of wheat, all changing with the seasons. From the window, riders may catch a glimpse of tomato fields, classic red barns, or a tractor chugging along.
Every so often, the Sacramento River appears, sparkling against the silhouette of the Coast Range. It’s a reminder that this farmland has been shaping California’s story for more than a century.

Travelers can choose between two ways to ride. The Golden Fox includes reserved seating, a sparkling drink in a souvenir flute, and attentive tableside service. The Copper Fox provides open seating, with snacks and beverages available for purchase along the way.
Both options span 1.5 to 2 hours and feature a mix of open-air and climate-controlled cars, creating a relaxed atmosphere for families, couples, or groups of friends.
Tickets are now available, giving locals and visitors alike the chance to toast the sunset, breathe in the fresh valley air, and rediscover Sacramento’s farming heartland. More details at riverfoxtrain.com.
