Yosemite’s Tuolumne Meadows Campground Reopens After $26M Overhaul

Yosemite National Park has announced the long-awaited reopening of Tuolumne Meadows Campground on August 1, following a major three-year, $26 million renovation funded by the Great American Outdoors Act.

Closed since 2022, the high-country campground—one of the largest in the National Park System—now boasts upgraded amenities, new infrastructure, and expanded accessibility. Yosemite is also reopening Porcupine Flat and Bridalveil Creek campgrounds on July 15, with reservations available on Recreation.gov starting July 1.

Originally built in the 1930s, Tuolumne Meadows Campground hosts up to 2,200 campers nightly and serves as a gateway to Yosemite’s rugged wilderness. The revitalized campground includes 336 campsites, 29 new hike-in sites, 21 backpacker sites, and dedicated group and equestrian areas.

Key improvements include upgraded restrooms, new picnic tables and fire rings, a modernized water system, and better sewer infrastructure. The popular Dana Campfire Circle amphitheater has been updated for improved accessibility.

Importantly, the project also focused on environmental restoration. Campsites near the Tuolumne River were relocated to protect sensitive riparian habitat, aligning with the park’s long-term conservation goals.

With refreshed facilities and a renewed commitment to preservation, Tuolumne Meadows is once again ready to welcome campers to one of the most serene landscapes in the Sierra Nevada.
