Adventure Couple Hikes into the Desolation Wilderness for Unique Wedding Celebration

You think your wedding was cool? It might not have been as cool as this wedding celebration, with the bride and groom hiking into the Northern California wilderness to elope in front of remote Sierra lake.

Earlier this year, a Lake Tahoe couple who go by the name @the_adventureaddicts on Instagram hiked into the Desolation Wilderness for a wedding celebration in the remote wilderness. The result was a beautifully unique celebration which also got them more than 20 million views on Instagram.

Check out the video from their adventure:

Such a cool idea and a great way to save money. Here’s what they had to say about the unique wedding:

We had been talking about eloping since we first started talking about getting married. I’ll admit, we went back and forth on a few different ideas, but this whole plan came to fruition only about a month and a half before the date.

When we started looking at planning a wedding, we realized most venues we looked into start at $20,000, which doesn’t include much aside from a location.

We bought a home at the end of last year, and we couldn’t fathom spending that much (and obviously a lot more) on one evening of celebrations.

We also just really wanted a wedding day that was low stress, easy, and just focused on our love for each other.

We hiked out with just us, our officiant/best friend, and two photographers, to one of the most beautiful alpine lakes near home.

We got ready, had our ceremony, got treated to a beautiful sunset and spent the night. The next morning, we woke up, jumped in the lake, and ate some Trader Joe’s cake.

It was perfect, so beautiful, and better than I imagined.

I’ll admit, I was a little nervous I may regret not doing the whole wedding thing, but I don’t regret a moment of it. I’m so so happy with how it all turned out.

We got 6 campsites and celebrated for 4 days with friends and family the following week, and had the best time with our loved ones too. They got to watch our ceremony that we recorded, so they could feel a part of the ceremony.

It wasn’t easy for everyone to get on board with the elopement, but in the end, everyone was so happy for us, and told us they couldn’t imagine us doing it any other way.

Wedding days should be more about us, and less about the chaos (but also, if you want a wedding and it’s something you’re dreaming of, OBVIOUSLY do it!! It just didn’t fit for us. But dang, I really love attending weddings!!)

And an adventure wedding wouldn’t be complete without jumping into Lake Aloha with your nice outfits on:

Congrats to the happy couple!
