Backcountry Lovers Rally to Raise $26K for Lake Tahoe Winter Access

Backcountry access around Lake Tahoe is getting a major lift thanks to a successful community fundraising challenge led by the Tahoe Fund.
The Tahoe Fund announced this week that its $10K for TBA matching challenge raised more than $26,000 to support the Tahoe Backcountry Alliance, unlocking a $10,000 matching gift after more than 100 donors stepped up. The funds will go directly toward improving safe, equitable access to Tahoe’s winter backcountry.
For more than a decade, the Tahoe Backcountry Alliance has worked to address common access challenges across the basin, including limited parking, snow removal, and overcrowded or hard-to-reach trailheads. The organization also plays a key role in expanding who gets to enjoy the snow. Through partnerships with local libraries in El Dorado, Placer, and Nevada counties, TBA offers free sno-park passes and winter gear. The group also supports cross-country ski and snowshoe outings as part of the Washoe Tribe’s Youth Expedition Program.
The matching challenge was launched in celebration of TBA’s 10th anniversary and included a membership incentive for donors who gave $35 or more. Those memberships connect supporters with a community of backcountry users while helping fund ongoing access improvements.
While the matching campaign has wrapped up, TBA memberships remain available year-round for anyone looking to support human-powered winter recreation around Lake Tahoe.
