Beloved Clearwater Fishing Lodge Closing its Doors

The legendary Clearwater Lodge, known for its beautiful accommodations and stellar fly fishing services, has permanently closed its doors. Since the 1990s, the lodge has provided a 5-star experience for visitors looking to experience the famed fly fishing of Northern California, both at its location on Hat Creek and its most recent property on the Pit River.

“For over 30 years, Clearwater House, then Clearwater Lodge, represented the best in guided fly fishing, hospitality and fine dining set in an atmosphere of relaxed comfort,” wrote the lodge on social media. “Closing our doors permanently was a difficult decision, but the time has come. We want to thank each of you who joined us here. Not just as guests, but as friends whom we look forward to continuing to share time with on the water.”

The property will reopen in September 2022 as the Clearwater at Whipple Ranch on the Fall River, a rental home providing fly fishing guiding and dude ranch services.

“Going forward, our guides will still be available, and a rental home with dude ranch and fly fishing activities will re-open on the Fall River in September as Clearwater at Whipple Ranch. We hope to see you there!”

Although the name Clearwater might not mean much to some of our readers, it was a place which this writer grew up with. I spent the summers of my childhood running around the original property on Hat Creek, and still romanticize those memories to this day. It will be missed.
