California’s Only Heli-Skiing Operation Set to Take Off in 2026

California skiers and riders are about to unlock a new level of winter adventure. Sweetwater Heli has announced the launch of the state’s first-ever heli-skiing operation, with small-group tours set to begin February 1, 2026. The new program opens access to more than 180,000 acres of untouched terrain in the Sweetwater Mountains, bringing a world-class experience much closer to home.
Based in Bridgeport, the operation sits within easy reach of Mammoth, Lake Tahoe, and Reno. Skiers will enjoy helicopter transfers, curated gear delivered to their lodging, expert guides, and high-alpine terrain usually only reachable in places like Alaska or British Columbia.
Safety remains the backbone of the operation. Each day is built around small groups, efficient rotations, detailed avalanche forecasting, and professional pilots, ensuring the highest chance of deep powder with minimal risk.
Co-founder Brian Kirschenmann says the launch fills a long-standing gap in California skiing: “Having the opportunity for world-class heli-skiing right in our backyard is truly priceless and long overdue.”
Local athletes agree. Mammoth instructor Hilary Roache calls it “the ultimate California ski day,” while Tahoe pro snowboarder Tim Humphreys says the dream of heli-skiing at home is finally real.
Sweetwater Heli launches January 30, 2026, with single and multi-day experiences starting at $1,800 per day. Reservations are open now at sweetwater-heli.com.
