Celebrate National Public Lands Day with Volunteer Opportunities in Shasta-Trinity National Forest
Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 28th! The U.S. Forest Service-Shasta-Trinity National Forest (USFS) is hosting special volunteer opportunities and offering free access to the forest in celebration of National Public Lands Day (NPLD).
Two forest clean-up events will be taking place—one at Mt. Shasta and another in Lakehead. Specific details on these clean-ups will be announced in the coming weeks, but it’s an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in lending a hand to keep these beautiful areas pristine.
In addition to volunteering, the USFS has announced that September 28th will be one of the five annual fee-free days, allowing free access to national forests, parks, refuges, and rangelands across the U.S.
National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest single-day volunteer event for public lands, a tradition that started in 1994. According to the USFS, over the years, more than 1 million volunteers have contributed over 5 million hours of service, an effort valued at an impressive $133 million.
