Confirmed Wolf Attacks on Livestock Surge Across Northern California

Wolves are making headlines again in Northern California, as the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) confirmed a new wave of livestock attacks between May 9 and June 5, 2025.

CDFW posted multiple investigation reports detailing 13 injuries and kills linked to known wolf packs, using evidence such as tracks, DNA, radio collar data, and physical signs like hemorrhaging to confirm wolf involvement.

Confirmed predations involved several established packs—including the Lassen, Diamond, Whaleback, Harvey, Tunnison, and Beyem Seyo packs—as well as a new area of known wolf activity. One investigation also cited the former territory of BEY10M, a radio-collared wolf that has since dispersed from Lassen County.

This latest stretch of wolf-livestock conflict highlights the growing presence—and complexity—of wolf activity in the Northern California backcountry. As packs expand their range, incidents like these are becoming more frequent and more closely monitored by wildlife officials.

The reports add fuel to the ongoing debate between wildlife advocates and ranchers, as California continues to navigate the rewilding of one of its most iconic predators.
