Officials Identify 8 Victims of Lake Tahoe Boat Accident, Including DoorDash Executive

A devastating boating accident over the weekend has claimed the lives of eight people on Lake Tahoe, including a DoorDash executive and several of his family members.

Joshua Antony Pickles, 37, of San Francisco, died when a boat carrying ten people capsized Saturday near D.L. Bliss State Park. Pickles, who served as DoorDash’s global head of strategic sourcing and procurement, was on the boat with his parents, Paula Bozinovich, 71, and Terry Pickles, 73, and uncle, Peter Bayes, 72, all of whom also died.

The other victims were identified as Timothy O’Leary, 71, and Theresa Giullari, 66, along with James Guck, 69, and Stephen Lindsay, 63—all family friends from New York and California.

The group had gathered to celebrate Bozinovich’s birthday aboard a boat recently purchased by Pickles. As winds gusted over 35 mph and waves reached 8 feet, the boat began taking on water, stalled, and overturned. Two people were rescued and hospitalized. The final victim’s body was recovered Monday.

DoorDash released a statement saying it was “heartbroken” by Pickles’ death, calling him an inspiration and cherished teammate.

Pickles’ wife, Jordan Sugar-Carlsgaard, who stayed behind with their 7-month-old daughter, said, “No words can express the pain and anguish we feel.”

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office extended its condolences to all those affected by the tragedy.
