Daily Avalanche Forecasts for Mount Shasta Are Now Available for Winter 2025–26

Winter recreation season is officially underway on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, and so are the Mount Shasta Avalanche Center’s daily snow, weather, and avalanche forecasts. Updates are now posted every morning by 7 a.m., giving backcountry travelers the latest conditions before they head into the mountains.
The reports cover key winter hotspots including Mount Shasta, Castle Lake, the Eddy Mountains, Pilgrim Creek Snowmobile Park, and Sand Flat Winter Trails. With backcountry use continuing to grow each year, the Avalanche Center emphasizes one message above all: check the forecast before you go.

To help keep winter travelers safe, the Mount Shasta Avalanche Center is offering free avalanche education throughout the season. Sessions will include the “Know Before You Go” presentation along with hands-on avalanche transceiver and rescue practice at Bunny Flat.
The first educational program kicks off on Saturday, December 6, at 7 p.m. at Deadwood Supply Co. in Mount Shasta.
