Deadly Boat Accident on Lake Tahoe Leaves 6 Dead, 2 Still Missing

A tragic boating accident on Lake Tahoe has left six people dead and two more missing after a vessel capsized Saturday afternoon near DL Bliss State Park.
The 27-foot boat was reportedly struck by a large swell during high winds that swept across the lake, creating hazardous conditions.
Videos from a South Lake Tahoe beach show the wreckage of boats hitting the shore:
Emergency responders rushed to the scene, where they rescued two survivors who were transported to a nearby hospital. According to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, search and rescue teams, including divers, will return to the area to continue looking for the missing individuals.
The names of the deceased have not been released pending notification of their families.
Witnesses told local news outlets that winds picked up suddenly in the afternoon, making the lake rough and unsafe for small vessels. “It was a very, very tragic day on Lake Tahoe,” local boat captain Joby Cefalu told South Tahoe News.
As summer activity ramps up across Northern California’s lakes, this heartbreaking event serves as a stark reminder of how quickly conditions can turn dangerous on the water.
