Fisherman Crashes Helicopter into East Fork Carson River

A fisherman was injured when his private helicopter fell into the East Carson River last week, according to the Alpine County Sheriff’s Office.
The fisherman, whose name has not been released, flew his helicopter to the river for a day of fishing. However, when he attempted to take off, part of the riverbank gave way, causing the helicopter to tumble into the river. Fortunately, the fisherman was able to swim to shore and suffered only minor injuries.
After calling 911, the fisherman was airlifted by Care Flight to Carson Valley Medical Center for treatment. The helicopter, which is still in the river, is not fully submerged, and officials report it is not leaking any fluids into the water. Efforts are underway to retrieve the helicopter from the river.
This unusual incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of riverbanks and terrain in remote areas, even for experienced pilots.
