Fisherman Lands MONSTER 17-Pound Mackinaw on Lake Tahoe
When you think of the best places to fish in Northern California, Lake Tahoe typically isn’t near the top of that list. But if you roll with the right people, you might just catch a big ass fish that is rarely seen on the West Coast.
Tahoe Sport Fishing is the largest fishing charter outfit on Lake Tahoe and they have the 20-year experience to help you catch one of the unique fish of the lake. You’ll mostly see some rainbow trout or Kokanee salmon coming out of Tahoe, but every once in a while, you can land a big ol’ mackinaw (which is a type of trout). No, this isn’t Minnesota.
Here’s a recent catch from Captain Bobby of Tahoe Sport Fishing that measured in at 37 inches and weighed 17.2 pounds:
What a great catch! Typically, we see plenty of big rainbow trout and salmon landed in NorCal, but rarely mackinaw. The fish are mostly found in the high-elevation lakes. In fact, a near record 31-pounder was caught in Donner Lake in 2020.
