Forest Service Opens 6 More Campgrounds in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest

Last week, Forest Service officials announced they would be reopening 31 campsites in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, just in time for the beautiful May weather and the annual tradition of camping during Memorial Day weekend. Now they have added six more to that list, all in the Trinity area, bringing the total campsites open in the national forest to 37.
This week, these campsites will be reopening to the public:
- Alpine View
- Bushytail
- Hayward Flat
- Preacher Meadow
- Rush Creek
- Tannery Gulch (however TG water sytem is non-op, so please bring enough water for your trip)
The announcement opens another major portion of the Northern California wilderness to campers, all within the Trinity region.
The forest service is currently asking people to recreate locally. Visitors should practice self-sufficiency when visiting national forests and come prepared with all the essentials needed for your trip, including food, emergency supplies, and the ability to pack-out trash. Remember to recreate responsibly by keeping the following in mind:
• Maintaining at least six feet distancing from others
• Do not gather in groups other than those in your household and please follow the latest guidance from officials.
• Communicate with others as you pass. Alert trail users of your presence and step aside to let others pass
• Pack out your trash and leave with everything you bring in and use.
