Gusts Forecasted Up to 150 MPH Bring a High Wind Watch to Lake Tahoe

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a high wind watch for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area, valid from 1 a.m. Sunday through 8 p.m. Sunday evening.
Strong southwest winds ranging from 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 65 mph are expected in lower areas, while ridge tops could experience extreme gusts of up to 150 mph. These dangerous winds could result in damaging conditions, including fallen trees, downed power lines, and widespread power outages.
Travelers, particularly those with high-profile vehicles, should prepare for hazardous conditions. The NWS advises residents and visitors to secure loose outdoor items such as patio furniture, holiday decorations, and trash cans to prevent them from becoming projectiles.
To stay safe during potential outages, ensure you have extra food and water, flashlights with spare batteries, or candles ready.
This advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Sunday evening. Stay informed by checking updates from local authorities and the NWS as conditions develop.
