North Coast State Parks Offering Free Guided Hikes on New Years Day

Kick off the new year with fresh air and scenic adventures by joining California State Parks’ annual First Day Hikes on Wednesday, January 1. This national initiative encourages individuals and families to explore the stunning natural and cultural treasures of the outdoors, offering an inspiring way to start 2025.

In the North Coast Redwoods District, several guided hikes will take place at iconic state parks:

  • 11 a.m. Simpson Reed Grove Trail, Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park
  • 2 p.m. Redwood Access Trail, Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park
  • 2 p.m. Sumeg Village Tour, Sue-meg State Park
  • 2 p.m. Gould Grove Loop Trail, Humboldt Redwoods State Park
  • 2 p.m. Nature Trail, Richardson Grove State Park

Each hike lasts about an hour, and all are free and open to the public. Remember to dress in layers, bring snacks and water, and wear sturdy hiking shoes to ensure a safe and enjoyable outing. Programs are weather-dependent, so check park updates on social media (@NorthCoastRedwoods) before heading out.
