How to See Yosemite’s Firefall Without a Reservation

Yosemite National Park’s “Firefall” is a captivating natural event occurring in mid-to-late February, where the setting sun illuminates Horsetail Fall on El Capitan, creating the illusion of cascading fire. This spectacle attracts large crowds, leading the National Park Service to implement a reservation system to manage visitor numbers.

For 2025, reservations are required for park entry on the weekends of February 8–9, 15–17, and 22–23. Weekday visitors, except on Presidents’ Day (February 17), do not need reservations. The first 50% of vehicle reservations for all required dates became available on November 18, 2024, at 8 a.m. PST, with the remaining 50% released two days prior to each entry date.

To avoid the reservation process, consider utilizing shuttle services like the Yosemite Firefall Express offered by Rush Creek Lodge and Evergreen Lodge. These shuttles provide transportation to Yosemite Valley during Firefall season, allowing guests to bypass the reservation system. The service includes assistance from a naturalist guide to select optimal viewing spots. The Yosemite Firefall Express operates from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on select dates in February 2025, with prices set at $110 per adult and $80 per youth (ages 8-15).

Alternatively, planning your visit on weekdays can help you avoid the reservation requirement. However, be prepared for large crowds, especially during peak viewing times. Arriving early and using park shuttles can enhance your experience.
