Interstate 80 Closes Near Tahoe Due to Heavy Snow
CalTrans workers have been able to do a fantastic job on high-elevation roadways as Snowmageddon continues to pummel Northern California. The busy Interstate 80 near Tahoe has been able to stay open for the most part this week, but that changed Thursday afternoon when multiple spinouts forced the road to close in both directions.
As of 4 pm on Thursday, I-80 remains closed both eastbound and westbound as CalTrans attempts to clean up the roadway in the midst of heavy snowfall. The road is closed between Colfax and the Nevada stateline:

Roads throughout the Tahoe region have closed this week, including Highway 89 on the west side of Lake Tahoe and Highway 50.
We will continue to update this situation as more information is made available.
