In an effort to reduce overcrowding and protect scenic viewpoints, officials at Lake Tahoe have announced a new reservation system—specifically for people taking Instagram photos at Emerald Bay.

Starting June 1, 2025, visitors hoping to snap that perfect lakeside shot will need to reserve a Scenic Content Permit through the new “TahoeGram” app. Each time slot includes 5 minutes on the designated “Photo Rock,” a personal ring light, and access to a certified “Vibe Consultant.”

“The goal is to balance public access with aesthetic excellence,” said park spokesperson Sierra Bloom. “We had over 4,000 people attempt the same foot-pop silhouette shot last July. Something had to be done.”

To ensure quality control, the app will also provide filters approved by the Tahoe Aesthetics Committee, which has banned anything “too grainy or aggressively saturated.”

Violators who post unregistered Emerald Bay content will receive a 48-hour Tahoe ban and be forced to caption their next photo with “I didn’t follow the rules.”

Locals are reportedly split. Some welcome the order. Others say they’ll just go back to using MySpace.
