Lake Tahoe’s Wildly Unique Cliffside Mansion Finally Sells for $42 Million

Eight years after first hitting the market, one of the most unusual and eye-catching homes on the shores of Lake Tahoe has finally sold.
The custom-built Crystal Pointe estate, perched dramatically on a rocky cliff above Crystal Bay on Tahoe’s Nevada side, closed last week for $42 million. The sale marks the end of a long and winding journey for a property that once carried a jaw-dropping $75 million price tag.

Set on five acres between State Route 28 and the lake below, Crystal Pointe is anything but ordinary. The estate features two separate homes — an eight-bedroom main residence high above the water and a 3,600-square-foot beach house below — connected by two glass-walled funiculars that shuttle residents down the cliff to a private beach.

The main house is packed with luxury touches, including floor-to-ceiling windows, turret skylights, a wraparound deck with a lakeview hot tub, and a 1,200-bottle wine cellar. The beach house includes a striking dining table crafted from a 2,400-year-old alligator juniper tree inlaid with semi-precious stones.

The home was completed in 2015 by sellers Geri and Stuart Yount, the former CEO of Fortifiber. Selling proved challenging, with multiple listings and price drops over the years. Originally listed in 2017, Crystal Pointe returned to the market in 2023 before finally finding a buyer. The identity of the new owner has not been disclosed.
