Lassen Volcanic National Park Bolsters Youth Camping Program Thanks to Grant

Lassen Volcanic National Park is gearing up to expand its youth camping program thanks to a generous grant from the National Park Foundation. The grant, a part of the ParkVentures program, will be instrumental in supporting non-profit youth groups, particularly those catering to at-risk or underserved children, by providing scholarships to cover camping expenses.

Established in 2016, the Volcano Adventure Camp within the park has been offering immersive outdoor experiences to youth groups, allowing them to explore the park’s natural and cultural history through educational outings and ranger-led activities.

Despite facing challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic and the rising cost of living in the area, the program has remained resilient. With the assistance of the grant, organizers aim to bounce back from a recent decline in enrollment and continue providing enriching experiences for young campers.

Priority will be given to organizations serving underserved or at-risk youth, who can utilize the funds for camping essentials and logistical support.

Since its inception, the foundation’s youth camping program has positively impacted over 4,000 grant recipients, highlighting its significant contribution to youth engagement with nature.

For those interested in learning more about the program, making reservations, or applying for grants, detailed information can be found on the Lassen Park Foundation’s website.
