Leonardo DiCaprio’s NorCal-Filmed Thriller Gets Official Title and 2025 Release Date
Leonardo DiCaprio’s brand-new thriller, which was filmed in Northern California earlier this year, now has an official name and release date.
The film is called “The Battle of Batkan Cross” and is set for an August 2025 theatrical release, according to IMDB.
The film, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, took over parts of Humboldt County as well as downtown Sacramento in February, with scenes shot at Eureka’s Murphy’s Market, the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel in Sacramento, and the Gordon Schaber Sacramento County Courthouse.
Fans flocked to catch glimpses of the film shoot in action, including DiCaprio dressed as a vagabond in Eureka:
The movie is an adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s novel “Vineland,” bringing Anderson back to Pynchon’s work, following his 2014 film “Inherent Vice.” Known for acclaimed films like “Licorice Pizza” and “There Will Be Blood,” Anderson’s new crime thriller will be set in Northern California.
Joining DiCaprio are Academy Award-winner Sean Penn, Regina Hall, and Tenaya Taylor. The Warner Bros. project, previously referred to as “The BC Project,” is expected to be a major highlight of 2025.
