Mammoth Island: Highway 395 Closed for 90 Miles with No Way In or Out of Mammoth Lakes

The “Mega Storm” peaked in the California Saturday morning and it’s making mountain travel throughout the state nearly impossible. One of the most unique situations for mountain travel is the town of Mammoth Lakes, which is currently closed in all directions due to blizzard conditions with no timetable for reopening.

Highway 395 is currently closed in both directions from Bishop to Bridgeport, which is approximately 90 miles. CalTrans webcams show the area looking like a baron wasteland in the Eastern Sierra:

The town of Mammoth Lakes has been getting nuked by snow since Friday, including 24 inches at Mammoth Mountain during the storm. The ski resort, which regularly tops California’s highest snowfall totals each year, closed for the day due to blizzard conditions.

Once Mammoth Mountain reopens, the locals currently hunkered down in the blizzard are going to enjoy epic powder turns all to themselves.
