Medicine Lake Under Mandatory Evacuation Due to Approaching Caldwell Fire

The Caldwell Fire in the upper north section of California has already closed the Lava Beds National Monument and is approaching Medicine Lake, which is now under mandatory evacuation.

The fire now sits at 7,900 acres and is part of the large July Complex fires, which includes 15 lightning caused wildfire throughout Modoc and Siskiyou Counties. As the fire approaches the Medicine Lake Recreation Area, it currently has no containment.

Before the lake closed on Friday, the Lava Beds National Monument closed its gates on Thursday:
