Northern California’s World-Record Corn Maze Opens for the Fall Season

Fall in Northern California means pumpkins, cool evenings, and getting lost in a sea of corn stalks. Cool Patch Pumpkins in Dixon, located right off Interstate 80 between Sacramento and San Francisco, has once again opened its gates for the season with its giant pumpkin patch and world-famous corn maze.
The Cooley family’s corn maze has twice earned recognition from the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest on the planet, in 2007 and 2014. Spread across 40 acres, the maze typically takes at least 45 minutes to complete and is designed entirely by hand. Five bridges are scattered throughout the twisting paths, allowing visitors to rise above the corn and see the intricate design from overhead.
Each year, the Cool Patch team crafts a new theme into the maze. Past seasons have honored veterans and first responders with massive murals visible from above. This year, the design pays tribute to farmers, highlighting the work and spirit that keep communities thriving.
Beyond the maze, Cool Patch also features family-friendly attractions, including a pumpkin patch and a “corn bath” for toddlers filled with more than 150,000 pounds of dried corn.
The experience is meant to celebrate the joy of wandering, getting turned around, and finding your way out again—an adventure that feels refreshing in a world of constant GPS directions.
Cool Patch Pumpkins is open daily through Halloween.
