Fire Restrictions Lifted on Shasta-Trinity and Six Rivers National Forests

Campers and outdoor enthusiasts in Northern California can once again enjoy campfires in the Shasta-Trinity and Six Rivers National Forests, as officials announced the lifting of seasonal fire restrictions this week.

On September 30, the Shasta-Trinity National Forest officially eased restrictions, allowing responsible campfires outside of developed recreation sites. Forest officials noted that cooler temperatures, recent rainfall, shorter days, and lower sun angles have reduced fire danger across the region. Fuels that were highly flammable during peak summer conditions are now less available, making it safer for dispersed camping and fire use.

This timing aligns with the usual end-of-season adjustment, as fire restrictions are often lifted in early fall. However, the U.S. Forest Service continues to urge visitors to remain vigilant. Campfires should always be placed in areas cleared of vegetation, and it is essential to ensure a fire is completely extinguished before leaving a site.

The change means visitors can return to a favorite autumn tradition—enjoying a warm fire while camping in some of Northern California’s most popular public lands. Both Shasta-Trinity and Six Rivers officials remind the public that staying firewise remains critical, even as conditions improve.
