Once-in-a-Lifetime Waves Slam the Northern California Coast

After the National Weather Service issued a high surf warning in Northern California on Sunday, organizers of the world-renown Mavericks Surf Challenge postponed the event past this week. But that didn’t stop surfers from experiencing one of the best surf days in the past decade on Monday.

Waves the size of 5-story buildings slammed the coast of NorCal on Monday, creating a dangerous situation for beach-goers and waves of a lifetime for big wave surfers. Riders, along with a slew of photographers and media, crowded the cliffs above Mavericks near Half Moon Bay to see an aquatic show of epic proportions.

Mavericks organizers will continue to assess the situation and announce the hopeful date of the competition later this week.
