Rejoice! Another Foot of Snow Expected for the NorCal Mountains this Week

It was a beautiful surprise to see last weekend’s early-season storm drop 20 inches of snow on the Northern California mountains. From Mt. Shasta to Lassen to Tahoe and all the way down to the Eastern Sierra, snow covered the high elevation areas of the Sierra Nevada providing more hope for a wet winter.
That hope continues this week as another storm is expected to arrive in NorCal on Friday, bringing with it the possibility of a foot of snow in the mountains. The National Weather Service is expecting Lassen to get hit the hardest with up to 18 inches of snow, while Tahoe and the Eastern Sierra should see about 6 inches.

The storm will also bring heavy rain for some areas of the region on Friday afternoon, with places like Eureka, Weaverville and Grass Valley expected to receive an inch or two of rain of the 24-hour span.
Chain controls are once again expected in high elevation areas like Interstate 80 and Highway 50 in Tahoe, as well as the Lassen Volcanic Highway in Lassen Volcanic National Park. To view the complete CalTrans road conditions map, go here.
The first storm of the season, which brought a heavy blanket of snow to the mountains last weekend, was an excellent start to winter in NorCal. Ski resorts around the area rejoiced as many keep their eyes on early opening dates. The snowfall made the mountains look like a winter wonderland:
While the Old Farmer’s Almanac predicted Northern California would experience a cold, dry winter, so far we’re seeing precipitation that could make for another great winter. Let’s hope that continues for the next 6 months.
