Sad News: Wildcard Brewing Co. Closes its Doors After 7 Years

In a sad and surprising turn of events, Wildcard Brewing Co. has announced it will be closing its doors after 7 years of brewing beer out of Redding. Wildcard owners took to social media to make the surprise announcement.

“It is with great sorrow that we announce the closure of Wildcard Brewing Co. A crazy dream made reality by the hard work, passion and support of so many people,” the post read

Wildcard has been a favorite of Active NorCal for years. They used to advertise in our print magazine and we even included them in our Ultimate Northern California Brewery-Camping Road Trip. Owners Jenny and Jeff Hansen were always a pleasure to talk to and work with. They also made amazing beer.

The closure is a reminder to shop locally, since the local artisans we know and love will always encounter financial hardships. Heck, Wildcard even won the Downtown Redding Business of the Year in 2017 and was lauded by the local community when they brewed Shasta Strong IPA with the proceeds going to Carr Fire victims. But with every business, there are highs and lows.

“In the end we just were not able to recover from costs required during expansion and financially suffered as our industry became too saturated,” explained the social post. “To those still working hard at it we have your backs always and ask every person reading this to please shop local first. It matters to the health of your community more than you know.”

A big thanks to Wildcard for always giving us tasty suds and memorable times with our friends at your brewery. You will be missed.
