As the fall salmon runs continue on the Feather River, and with the Feather River Hatchery closed to visitors due to Covid-19, the Forebay Aquatic Center is hosting salmon viewing kayak tours in the month of October.

During the weekend where Butte County is typically host of the Oroville Salmon Festival (cancelled this year due to Covid-19), the first-ever salmon viewing kayak tours were offered on the Feather River. The tours were so popular, that the Forebay Aquatic Center announced it will continue them during the next two Saturdays (through October 24). The tours will start at the Feather River Hatchery and will take place at 9 am, noon and 3 pm.

On the tour, kayakers will be able to see the salmon in action as they make their way into the hatchery system for spawning, a crucial practice to help improve salmon populations throughout Northern California.

The cost is $30 for adults and $20 for students K-12, with kayaks and life-preservers provided for anyone who needs them. For more information and to register for the event, go here
