Search for Missing Brothers at Thermalito Afterbay Continues Amidst Challenges

The search continues for brothers Andruw and Wesley Cornett, who went missing during a duck hunting trip at the Thermalito Afterbay on December 14, 2024. The Butte County Search and Rescue team continues its relentless efforts despite facing significant challenges.
The volunteer team, operating as part of the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, remains committed to the mission, stating they have no plans to halt the search. However, resources have been severely strained, and worn-out equipment has further complicated the operation. The team estimates it needs $25,000 in repairs to restore its capacity to full strength.
Harsh conditions at the afterbay, including severe weather, dense vegetation, and treacherous waters, have created risks for searchers and slowed progress. Despite these obstacles, the team is dedicated to bringing closure to the Cornett family.
Butte County Search and Rescue operates as a non-profit organization supported by community members. They are asking for public assistance to fund additional resources and equipment needed for this and future rescue missions. Community members wishing to support the search efforts can contribute through donations on their website to help the team continue their critical work.
