Nicholas Smith set out around 8 am on Monday to hike deep into Upper Bidwell Park in Chico. Around 5 pm, he called the Chico Police to indicate he was lost and his phone only had 1 percent of battery left.
On Tuesday morning, search and rescue crews embarked into the park to find the 31-year-old hiker, believed to be located near the Northern, Yahi, Middle and B Trails.
Search crews were stationed at Monkey Face near Horseshoe Lake in hopes of seeing the hiker, and weather cleared Tuesday morning to allow for a helicopter unit to aid in the search.
