Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort Closes After 5+ Feet of Snow From Massive Storm

Another Sierra resort is pressing pause as this week’s powerful winter storm continues to hammer the mountains.

Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort announced it will remain closed Wednesday, Feb. 18, citing safety concerns after receiving more than five feet of snow from the ongoing storm cycle. An astonishing three feet fell in just the last 24 hours alone.

The closure comes as whiteout conditions and deep snow have disrupted travel across the region. Caltrans reports that Highway 50 closures are expected to remain in place through at least 10 a.m., limiting access to the mountain and surrounding areas.

Resort officials say crews are actively digging out lifts, buildings, and access routes in hopes of reopening Thursday, weather permitting.

The broader Sierra remains under the grip of a major winter system that has delivered feet of snow, triggered widespread road closures, and elevated avalanche danger throughout the backcountry.

Guests with lift tickets or lessons scheduled for Wednesday can contact the resort’s pass office to modify reservations.
