Snowfall Forecasted to Hit Redding Next Week

The series of storms currently blankenting Northern California are bringing heavy snowfall to the mountains and plenty of rain to lower elevation areas. Next week, that could change with a significant drop in temperatures, leaving us with a current forecast of snow on Tuesday and Wednesday in Redding.

Snow days in Redding are pretty rare, with significant snow falling about once every one to three years. On January 28, 2021, up to a foot of snow fell around the city, forcing closures and sending locals into a snow day frenzy. This year could be just as significant with low temperatures and torrential precipitation in the forecast.

“Multiple models continue to hint at potential for some very low snow levels Tue-Wed next week in CA…” wrote popular climate scientist Daniel Swain on Twitter. “Perhaps even a dusting near sea level in NorCal.”

With about five days until that forecast, anything could happen and the forecast models can change. But it seems like we may be finishing 2021 with a whole lot of snow in Northern California. Here are some of the best photos/videos from January’s snowstorm in Redding:
