Tahoe Ski Resort to Debut Lakefront Gondola by Winter 2026–27

Homewood Mountain Resort is set to transform the Lake Tahoe ski experience with the installation of its first-ever gondola, aiming for completion by the 2026–27 winter season. The eight-passenger gondola will replace the aging Madden Triple Chair, offering guests a scenic and efficient ride from the lakefront base to a new mid-mountain lodge.

The project has cleared significant regulatory hurdles, including approvals from the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) and Placer County. Currently, the resort is finalizing building permits and preparing for construction, which includes tree removal and grading along the gondola route. Equipment such as gondola cabins and towers are already in storage, ready for installation.

Designed to enhance the experience for beginners and families, the gondola will elevate novice terrain by 1,000 feet, providing access to higher elevation snow and panoramic lake views.

This development is part of Homewood’s broader commitment to remain publicly accessible, following community concerns over potential privatization. The resort plans to reopen for the 2025–26 season, with the gondola debuting the following winter.
