The snowfall around Lake Tahoe is intense as the blizzard picked up steam overnight. With whiteout conditions and avalanche concerns, all major roadways around the region are closed, including Interstate 80 and Highway 50. With these road closures and dangerous winter conditions, many Tahoe ski resorts have closed for the day.

Here’s a list of Tahoe ski resorts closed today as of 6:30 am:

Palisades Tahoe – “Both side of Palisades Tahoe are CLOSED today due to avalanche hazard and limited access on the mountain.”

Sierra-at-Tahoe – “With a storm of this magnitude, major impacts to travel + roads throughout the region are projected to continue through tomorrow, rendering mountain access challenging + operations near impossible.”

Sugar Bowl – “Due to the extreme conditions, we have decided to keep the resort closed today (2/28/23). A team will be onsite today digging out, so we can reopen tomorrow (3/1/23) for what promises to be an amazing pow day!”

Heavenly (partially closed) – “The Heavenly Gondola and other lifts and facilities at the top of gondola will be closed due to the forecasted high winds and blizzard conditions. Please plan in advance for low visibility, extreme cold, and heavily impacted transportation. Thank you for your patience!”

Northstar – “Northstar will remain closed today due to the amount of new snow, and current weather forecast. Our teams are on the hill working hard to dig out and maintain the resort.”

Kirkwood – “We have made the tough decision to CLOSE for the day. We are unable to keep up on mitigation due to storm intensity. Mountain operations teams are continuing to work very hard so that we can have an epic powder day tomorrow.”

We will continue to update this list as more closure announcements are made.
