This Tahoe Road Gap Ski Jump is the Scariest Thing You’ll Watch Today

Professional freeskier Josh Daiek, known for pushing the boundaries of creativity and courage, has once again shocked the outdoor community.
Daiek, a 41-year-old from Meyers in El Dorado County, posted a jaw-dropping video of himself performing a ski-BASE jump over Highway 50 near South Lake Tahoe. He teased the video on his Instagram page, which looked like he was about to fall to his death:
In the clip, Daiek uses a gas-powered winch to accelerate to 40 mph before launching off a snow-covered ice ramp built on a cliff ledge. The cliff towers approximately 170 feet above the narrow mountain highway, the main route for drivers heading into South Lake Tahoe. But instead of sticking a landing on the sparsely snow-covered far slope, Daiek pulls a parachute mid-air, gliding down into Christmas Valley below.

The video, filmed two springs ago, has since gone viral, racking up over 200,000 views on YouTube.
The stunt wasn’t without its challenges. Despite extensive planning, Daiek revealed that softer snow conditions and an awkward parachute deployment led to a hard, unexpected crash on the hillside. Remarkably, he escaped without serious injury.
“I got super lucky on this one,” Daiek admitted. He also emphasized the importance of sharing both successes and failures, noting that even with rigorous training, things can go awry.
This isn’t Daiek’s first bold stunt. He previously made headlines for a 150-foot backflip over Highway 50. What will he do next?!
