Tornado Touches Down Briefly in Northern California, No Damage Reported

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a tornado warning on Friday evening for parts of Tehama and Shasta counties, following the brief touchdown of a tornado in an unpopulated area northeast of Dairyville.
The tornado, observed between 5:18 and 5:21 p.m., traveled approximately 0.8 miles. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries or property damage in the area, according to the NWS.
The tornado warning, which remained in effect until 6 p.m., included the communities of Shingletown, Manton, and Paynes Creek. After the warning expired, the NWS issued a special weather statement cautioning residents about potential 40 mph winds and penny-sized hail. The statement was in place until 7 p.m.
This event serves as a reminder that severe weather, though rare in Northern California, can occur and emphasizes the importance of staying alert during NWS warnings.
