Two Kids Killed in Landslide While Camping Near Shasta Dam

In a heart-wrenching event on Thursday morning near Shasta Dam, the Shasta County community is mourning the loss of two young lives following a hillside collapse.

The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) was alerted around 9 a.m. to a distressing situation in the Chappie-Shasta Off-Highway Vehicle Area, situated downstream from the dam, where rocks and debris had dislodged, dragging two children down a hillside into a culvert toward the river.

The SCSO to requested a temporary halt to water releases from Shasta Dam in order to facilitate the search and rescue efforts. The comprehensive operation, involving the SCSO Search & Rescue Team, Dive Team, and Boating Safety Unit, along with support from multiple allied agencies, led to the discovery of the children’s bodies. The victims, who had sustained fatal injuries from the fall, were pronounced dead on Thursday afternoon at the scene and subsequently transported to the Coroner’s office for further examination.

Details regarding the ages and relationship of the juveniles remain unconfirmed, as investigations into the circumstances of their fall continue.

This incident has cast a somber shadow over the community, with law enforcement and rescue teams emphasizing safety in the area. Traffic across Shasta Dam was restricted to support the recovery efforts, but is expected to reopen on Friday.

  1. This design is wicked! You obviously know how to keep a
reader amused. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog (well, almost…HaHa!) Wonderful job.
I really enjoyed what you had to say, and more than that,
how you presented it. Too cool!
