Will Mt. Shasta Ski Park Reopen Before the Season Ends?

After a winter filled with ups and downs, a big question is beginning to circulate among Northern California skiers: Will Mt. Shasta Ski Park reopen before the season ends?
The local resort, located on the southern slopes of Mount Shasta, has experienced a rollercoaster of conditions this winter. Periods of strong snowfall — including powder-filled stretches in late December and again in February — delivered some memorable days on the mountain. But warm storms, rain events, and fluctuating temperatures have also taken their toll.
Mt. Shasta Ski Park first shut down temporarily on February 9 after deteriorating conditions. That closure was brief, as fresh snow soon allowed the resort to resume operations. However, another shutdown was announced on March 1, and the ski area has remained closed since.
While higher elevations on the mountain are still holding onto snow, the base area tells a different story. Bare patches and thinning coverage have made it difficult to keep lifts spinning.
The forecast doesn’t offer much immediate help. According to OpenSnow, the region isn’t expected to see significant snowfall over the next 10 days. That leaves the resort hoping for what many spring skiers know well — a late-season storm cycle that could briefly revive the slopes.
Mt. Shasta Ski Park has dealt with increasingly inconsistent winters in recent years. Sitting at relatively low elevation and facing south, the ski area is particularly vulnerable to warm storms and fluctuating snow levels. Over the past decade, those challenges have become more noticeable.
Still, the resort hasn’t ruled out a comeback. If a strong round of spring snowfall arrives later this month, there’s a chance lifts could spin again before the season officially ends.
