Big Rig Fire Causes Closure on I-80 Near Donner Summit

A lot of issues can occur on Interstate 80 over Donner Summit when the snow is falling. Typically, blizzard conditions will cause spinouts and dangerous driving conditions for anyone trying to get over the summit. But this is a new one…

A big rig somehow became engulfed in flames near Donner Lake on Friday morning, causing a temporary closure to the eastbound lanes. While travelers in this storm could predict road closures over the notoriously snowy roadway, this type of closure was rather odd.

How the heck did that happen? The closure likely won’t last long, but still a nuisance for travelers trying to get over the pass during a break in the weather.
