CHP: Don’t Come to Tahoe Right Now, It’s Not Safe

With blizzards blasting the Sierra Nevada ski resorts with a record amount of snow in February, Weekend Warriors are loading up their clean Subarus and heading up to Tahoe for a epic powder trip. But with the horrible weekend traffic and treacherous road conditions, California Highway Patrol has something to say about the situation – STAY HOME!

The Placerville CHP took to social media to relay just how bad the Weekend Warriors have made the area this weekend:

“STOP DRIVING UP HERE FROM OUT OF AREA.”

“We cannot handle the amount of vehicles that keep coming up and getting stuck here. There are no alternate routes. Expect 6-8 hour delays. US-50 is being closed intermittently for avalanche control. Exits in Pollock Pines are being shut down for everyone except residents.”

“Just please stop coming up here. The situation is too much for the area to handle and there is nowhere for you to go.”

The plea to the public voiced an exhausted group of law enforcement officials and CalTrans workers who have pleaded with the public to avoid coming from out of town and creating dangerous driving conditions for visitors and locals alike.

Interstate 80 and Highway 50 have been closing periodically due to whiteout conditions, car spin outs and avalanche control. Memes on social media have relayed the ridiculousness of the situation:

Meanwhile, CHP doesn’t think it’s funny:
