Lassen Park Highway Opens for the Summer Season

Photo: National Park Service

The road through Lassen Volcanic National Park opened to vehicle traffic on Friday, June 3rd, indicating the official start of the summer season in Northern California’s most underrated National Park.

The road clearing in Lassen was much easier with little snow hitting Northern California this past winter. If it weren’t for the large amount of snow blanketing the region in April, the park may have seen a record-breaking early highway opening. But due to the fantastic April showers, the highway will see its latest opening to vehicle traffic since 2019.

Be prepared for snow in the highest elevations and be sure to check the weather forecast before your visit. Gusty, wet weather is forecasted through Sunday night. Warner Valley and Juniper Lake roads remain closed due to the effects of the Dixie Fire. For all conditions and openings in Lassen, go here.
