A lightning bolt has ignited a small fire in the Lassen Volcanic Wilderness, bringing concerned eyes to the park as it manages the flames in high heat and low humidity.

The Red Fire is located in a remote area near Red Cinder Cone along the eastern border of the park. Currently, the fire sits at only 1/4 of an acre, and Park Fire Management is working in close communication with Lassen National Forest, which manages the nearby Caribou Wilderness.

The fire is currently burning at low-intensity with minimal fire behavior and smoke output. Any change in strategy or significant variation in fire behavior will be posted to go.nps.gov/lavo/fire. Due to its small size, the Red Fire is not listed on Inciweb.

We will continue to monitor the situation.
