Popular Highways into Tahoe Closed in Both Directions Due to Blizzard Conditions

The rare October storm that is causing flooding and breaking multiple rain records throughout Northern California has also brought snow to the Sierra. A few feet of snow has fallen on the Tahoe mountains, forcing both Interstate 80 and U.S. Route 50 to close due to blizzard conditions.

The main entrances to the Tahoe basin now closed to all travelers. I-80 is closed westbound at the Nevada State line and Eastbound at Nyack. U.S. 50 is completely closed from Pollock Pines to South Lake Tahoe. In other words, Tahoe is completely closed to travelers.

We know multiple feet of snow have fallen on the area, but those complete numbers have not been compiled yet. We will continue to report on this situation as more information is made available.
