Tahoe Area Receives its First Snow of the Season

It’s early September and we’ve already recorded our first snowfall of the year in the Tahoe area.

The snowfall hit around 6 pm Tuesday near the Mount Rose summit, a light dusting that accumulated enough to become the first official snow of the water year. The National Weather Service shared a photo from their webcam showing a scene looking much like winter:

The first sign of snow in Tahoe came early this year, but not as early as you might think. Although the epic winter of 2018-19 didn’t see snow until October 3rd, the past five years of have seen the first snow of the year come in mid-September:

Will we see another epic winter in 2019-20? Only time will tell, but the we’ve already got a good start to the season.
